Legacy Systems

Here you can find information on Ecogate systems and accessories witch are no longer manufactured.

System connection

  1. The greenBOX® is connected to the original power source for the dust collector (115 or 230V, selectable by switcher).
  2. The dust collector is connected to the switched output of the greenBOX®: maximum dust collector size is 1 HP (one phase 115V) or 2 HP (230V AC), for larger dust collectors, a power relay EG400 is necessary.
  3. The gates are connected to the greenBOX® by a simple shielded cable (low voltage, 24V DC max.).
  4. The sensors are connected to gates by the delivered cable - (also low-voltage 24 V DC max.). The sensors are attached to a suitable surface on the woodworking machine motor by VELCRO® loops and hooks.

Legacy Systems FAQ

  1. Can more than eight workstations be connected to the ECOGATE System?

  2. How to check output from the ECOde sensor?

  3. Can a workstation with more outlets be connected to the ECOGATE® System?

  4. May I use a toroidal sensor as an alternative to ECOde sensor?

  5. How to control blast gates hooked to the floor sweeps etc.?

Can more than eight workstations be connected to the ECOGATE® System?

Yes, you can daisy chain two or more greenBOX units to control one dust collector. Instructions can be found on page 31 of the User Guide. But in some cases it is more cost effective to use two smaller dust collectors with two greenBOX units. If you select carefully which machine to connect to dust collector I. and which to dust collector II., then your energy savings can be quite high. For industrial users with a large number of the workstations, we recommend using the greenBOX PRO or greenBOX MASTER control unit.

How to check if the ECOde sensor output is O.K.?

An indicator of the signal level from ECOde sensors is a standard feature of the greenBOX control unit. A signal level indicator LED is connected to input No.1. The LED indicator is mounted under the small bottom cover for low-voltage inputs/outputs. The instructions on how to check the signal from the sensor is in the standart User Guide on pag 18.

Can a workstation with more outlets be connected to the ECOGATE® System?

Yes, you can connect up to two ECOGATE blast gates to one channel of the greenBOX control unit (wired in parallel). The instructions can be found on page 32 of the User Guide. If your workstation has more than three outlets, you can connect other ECOGATE blast gates to other channels on the greenBOX unit (with two ECOde sensors on the same workstation). For industrial users with a large number of the outlets and/or workstations, we recommend using the greenBOX MASTER control unit.

May I use a toroidal sensor as an alternative to ECOde sensor?

Yes. Toroidal sensors (circular ferrite with 25 twists of wire) EG313 are about the same price as a piezoelectric sensor. But installation of the toroidal sensor is expensive compared to the piezoelectric sensor. A licensed electrician must install the phase wire inside the toroidal ring (so he must disconnect the phase wire, insert the toroidal sensor, connect the wire again, he must arrange low-voltage output of the sensor safe from high-voltage wires, possibly creating a new hole in the electro installation box etc.). You are individually responsible for adhering to all safety regulations and codes (National Electric Code). To install ECOde sensor you need just few seconds to clean the surface, then stick the sensor on the machine.

How to control blast gates hooked to the floor sweeps etc.?

ECOGATE System provides one manual low-voltage remote switch (marked R8 in the connection diagram), which you can bring to your floor sweep or dust collecting table. This switch is just a simple on/off toggle switch which controls gate No. 8.
