September 2026 Adelie greenBOX Update: Reliability, Modbus Improvements, and Expanded Monitoring

4 min read

The latest Adelie greenBOX software update focuses on a practical priority for industrial control systems: making the platform more reliable, easier to configure, and more transparent to operators and engineers. Software version 9.13.6 and later reduces processor and memory overhead while adding new communication recovery, Modbus power-management, workstation-setup, Dust Collector Interface, and system-monitoring capabilities.

These changes build on recent greenBOX releases that added onboard DataMining, CSV data export, password-based access control, shift-time tracking, enhanced listbox programming, Dust Collector Interface support, and deeper monitoring of connected Modbus devices.

Software 9.13.6+ puts reliability first

A major development focus for version 9.13.6 and subsequent releases has been software efficiency. Reducing CPU utilization and memory consumption gives the greenBOX more operating headroom and can also reduce processor operating temperature.

The same reliability effort extends to communication with Ecogate Smart Gates. Reconnecting Modbus wiring now restores gate communication immediately. If the complete Master cable is reconnected, the greenBOX restarts communication after the connected gates finish their startup sequence, which takes approximately five seconds.

Automatic communication recovery adds a self-healing layer

The new communication auto-reset function can automatically power-cycle a Modbus branch when the greenBOX detects an extended loss of gate communication. After 20 seconds without communication, the software switches the branch's 24V DC supply off for five seconds and then restores power. It can repeat that recovery attempt up to three times at 30-second intervals. If communication is still not restored, the system waits five minutes before beginning another recovery cycle.

More control at each Modbus port

Updated greenBOX software adds support for electronic terminating resistors on newer interface hardware and the Dust Collector Interface. This removes the need to set terminating resistors manually with DIP switches on supported hardware.

The branch power controls are also more configurable. Current limits can be set up to 4 A (4,000 mA), with over-current timeout settings up to 60 seconds. These settings give technicians more control over how a Modbus branch is powered and protected as system size and connected-device load increase.

Workstation reordering makes setup easier

greenBOX now allows workstations to be rearranged directly in the setup interface. This is especially useful when commissioning a system or adding equipment later, because workstation order can be adjusted without rebuilding the configuration from scratch.

The feature also supports the greenBOX FROM END minimum-airflow strategy, which prioritizes gates farther from the fan when additional airflow is needed. For that logic to follow the physical duct system correctly, the workstation list should reflect the actual sequence of machines along each branch. New workstations can be added to the end of the list and then moved into the correct position using the reordering interface.

Full Dust Collector Interface sensor access inside greenBOX

The Dust Collector Interface is now represented more completely in the greenBOX user interface. Operators can view and use the full set of supported sensor values, including:

  • Airflow monitoring from the Averaging Air Velocity Sensor.

  • Filter differential pressure, fan total static pressure, and compressed-air or vacuum-pump pressure.

  • Outdoor ambient temperature and relative humidity used by automatic Winter Mode logic.

  • Three auxiliary 4–20 mA analog inputs for additional measurements such as temperature, pressure, air velocity, or container-level indication.

Sensor values can be mapped to individual systems and incorporated into greenBOX listbox programming. That allows measured conditions to participate directly in relay-output and input logic without requiring a separate custom-control layer for routine functions.

Engineering dashboards provide deeper system visibility

Improving software reliability requires more than reacting to failures. Ecogate's software engineering team has built internal monitoring dashboards that stream operating metrics to the Ecogate Cloud so software behavior can be observed over time.

The dashboards track CPU and memory use, active software containers, SSD utilization, network traffic, inter-module ZeroMQ messaging, and communication quality to interface boards, gates, VFDs, and Dust Collector Interfaces. These measurements give the engineering team a detailed view of how the platform behaves under real operating conditions and help identify opportunities for further optimization.

What is next for the Adelie greenBOX platform

The September development roadmap includes two larger control-system capabilities that are still in development and should be treated as roadmap items rather than released features.

Cascading, parallel, series, and lead/backup fan control

At the time of this update, software for cascading fans, parallel and series fan configurations, and lead/backup fan operation is approximately 90% complete. The remaining work centers on user-interface refinement and testing, with release targeted for the coming weeks.

Modbus RTU communication with higher-level controls

Ecogate is also developing Modbus RTU communication between greenBOX and higher-level control platforms such as Building Automation Systems, process-control systems, and PLCs responsible for broader plant automation. Basic connectivity has been established; the next development phase is to expose greenBOX parameters through that interface. The September roadmap targets this capability for a future release, with the source update identifying the following month as the development target.

Continuous development for an industrial control platform

The September 2026 update is less about one headline feature than about strengthening the platform as a whole: more resilient communication, better configuration tools, broader sensor visibility, deeper diagnostics, and continued work on redundancy and plant-level integration.

For facilities using Ecogate's On-Demand Control System, these improvements are designed to make the control layer easier to commission, easier to monitor, and more dependable as production requirements evolve.
